"About James"
Except for "My Bio," these personal pages--a defunct
blog and newsletter, and links pages I mostly no longer use--
are presented here primarily for historical purposes.
It's largely a graveyard of websites from 14 years ago.

Links

Like the "Connect" page, this page was "unpublished" by Google for some unspecified violation of a guideline--which one, I honestly don't know. When it worked, it was basically a set of bookmarks that I could access from any computer on the internet.

In addition to my own sites (see that Connect page), its destinations fell into seven categories:

  • Technical stuff for doing business with Google: Blogger, GoogleSites, Picasa Feedburner, Adsense, etc.
  • Social media pages, including various Facebook pages and Twitter. "Socials" will now do much of that.
  • Moribund websites: Intent, Gaia, Beliefnet, EduFire, Shenzhen Stuff, Classmates.com, and Flickr, all discussed on the CCC page. I also give my LinkedIn account; I still use that (a little).
  • Many Chinese social sites that I no longer use, or can use: Fanfou, Kaixin, Renren, Sina Weibo, Tencent Weibo, Sina Blog, and Zuosa
  • "Popular" sites I no longer use (too much work for too little return): Pinterest, Tumblr
  • Shenzhen Stuff and its sister sites for Beijing, Guangzhou, and Shanghai
  • Sites I do still use, albeit rarely: Statcounter, Amazon, and PayPal (the latter two are just aspirational at this point)

There follows a list of my many email addresses at the time, few of which are still in use.

And that's it! Presented here mainly for historical purposes.

Connect

RIP Connect page, 2009-2023

This page has been largely superseded by the top page of JamesBaquet.com and the "Socials" page on the revised site, so I have extensively rearranged it.

For historical purposes, here are a few of the sites that were a Big Deal back in 2009, and now (November, 2023) not so much. In addition to Facebook and Twitter (where you can still find me) I had pages on:

  • Intent ("My Path to Wellness" from Deepak Chopra's daughter; the site is GONE)
  • Gaia (online spiritual community; the site is GONE)
  • Beliefnet ("Inspiration. Spirituality. Faith." Seems the "community" is GONE!)
  • EduFire (online teaching site; the site is GONE)
  • Flickr (I have fewer than 120 photos there)
  • Shenzhen Stuff (for those who lived in Shenzhen; the site is GONE)
My other websites:

Still there after all these years:

  • The Temple Guy (about my travels in Japan and China, as well as temples and old churches in a few other places)
  • My Weebly (mostly for people in China to see when this site is blocked; no longer necessary)
Long gone, for one reason or another:
  • You Are That (philosophy and some journaling; my IP "lost" it, and I'm s-l-o-w-l-y transferring some of the old content into my JB site)
  • The Laughing Buddha (an old site I created for social activities in Shenzhen)
  • My Ning Page (my very own social network, never developed--remember Ning? It's still there, but my site is not.)
  • Shenzhen Buzz (an old site I created with friends, meant to be a city guide about Shenzhen; I wish I could find the old content.)
So the ever-changing internet done changed on me. Even this page was unpublished and under review by Google when I went to update it at the start of November, 2023 presumably (but not explicitly) for self-promotion, i.e. "spam." Otherwise, I can't see what guideline it violated. It seems to be in the clear now.
